OTTUMWA, Iowa – July 11, 2025 — Ottumwa Regional Health Center proudly recognizes Colleen Biggs, RN, a longtime member of its surgical services team, for more than 33 years of exceptional service and heartfelt dedication to patient care.
Throughout her tenure, Colleen has become known not only for her clinical care, but also for her unique and compassionate approach to easing the fears of young patients. One of her most beloved traditions involves dressing teddy bears in surgical scrubs and gifting them to children preparing for procedures—a gesture that has brought countless smiles and comfort over the years.
“Colleen’s thoughtful approach to caregiving exemplifies the very best of what we do here at Ottumwa Regional,” said Jennifer Luko, director of surgical services at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. “Her commitment to making our patients feel safe, supported and cared for is truly inspiring.”
Recently, one young patient, Darlene, was all smiles when she received her special teddy bear from Colleen. She immediately named it “Pinky”—a memory that both the patient and her family will cherish for years to come.
It’s meaningful moments like these that highlight the importance of not just clinical care, but compassionate connection. Colleen’s dedication reminds us that even the smallest gestures can make a profound impact.
Ottumwa Regional Health Center is grateful for Colleen’s continued service and proud to celebrate her legacy of kindness, skill, and heart.
