The team of specialists at Ottumwa Regional Health Center is experienced in all aspects of orthopedic surgery– from joint replacements to arthroscopic surgery. Our Board Certified Orthopedic physicians are specially trained to care for your orthopedic needs. We offer a comprehensive program of orthopedic restoration and care aimed at relieving pain, restoring independence, and returning you to an active lifestyle.
Thanks to joint aches and pains, many people find that everyday activities like gardening, biking, golfing, and even playing with kids or grandkids may bring more pain than pleasure. If you can relate, we may be able to help. Answer a few questions to see if you should speak with a provider about finding the right treatment to help put the go in your get-up-and-go again.
We’ll look at your unique health history and goals for the future, to help you decide on a treatment plan that best fits your needs. Ottumwa Regional Health Center also has inpatient and outpatient physical therapy to assist with your needs after surgery.
Ottumwa Regional Health Center is pleased to offer Joint Camp. This program is exclusively designed for patients who are preparing for, undergoing and recovering from hip or knee replacement surgery. By attending Joint Camp, patients proactively prepare not only for surgery, but for the return home and how to gradually resume normal activities.
Family members are strongly encouraged to participate as a coach for the patient, helping them in the transition to home. Patients and their coaches will attend a pre-surgery class so everyone knows what to expect throughout the process of surgery and after surgery. This education gives the patient the opportunity to have an active role in their surgery recovery and rehabilitation.
“Patients who transition through Joint Camp have less anxiety about their surgery,” notes Dr. Brad Scott, Orthopedic Surgeon. “They use less pain medication and go home sooner. Their rehabilitation goes more smoothly and they have fewer infections and other complications.”
