OTTUMWA - Ottumwa Regional Health Center (ORHC) has expanded access to diagnostic imaging by offering ultrasound appointments on weekends, beginning this June. Services will now be available three weekends per month, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., providing patients with greater flexibility to schedule essential diagnostic care outside of traditional weekday hours.
This initiative is part of ORHC’s broader mission of making communities healthier by removing barriers to essential diagnostic services. Weekend appointments are designed to serve working adults, caregivers, and rural residents who may struggle to find time or resources to attend appointments during the standard workweek.
Ultrasound imaging is a safe, non-invasive method used to evaluate organs, tissues, and blood flow. It plays a vital role in diagnosing a range of conditions, from vascular issues and gallbladder disease to prenatal development and musculoskeletal injuries. Timely access to ultrasound can lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatment planning, and improved health outcomes.
"Expanding our ultrasound services to weekends reflects our commitment to the delivery of patient-centered care that meets the needs of our community,” said Michael Covert, Interim CEO. "We want to ensure that everyone has access to critical diagnostic services without having to delay care.”
