OTTUMWA, Iowa - Ottumwa Regional Health Center’s Orthopedics clinic has a few new things- flooring, chairs, office space, but namely, a new provider.

Dr. Michael Scherb—who used to practice in Mason City—now joins Dr. Bradley Scott and P.A. Nusaybah Ismail at the clinic, treating issues with the skeletal-muscular system. Dr. Scherb’s arrival comes as the city struggles to attract and retain healthcare providers.

“It been really gratifying. Like, as I say, people have been very friendly and welcoming, and when I see people socially, they're thankful that I've come into town. Obviously, I came from a small town background, so I kind of like to work in rural medicine,” Dr. Scherb said.

Dr. Scott says as we head into early summer and get some nice weather, having another provider is especially helpful—saying acute injuries are more common this time of year.

“To help prevent injuries in the summertime, if it's a new activity, I encourage working into it. Start slow and work your way up. Stretching is always very important—and especially when it gets hot out there—stay well hydrated,” Dr. Scott said.
