Press Release - Ottumwa Regional Health Center• Sep 25, 2025 |
OTTUMWA - The American College of Cardiology has once again recognized Ottumwa Regional Health Center for its continued commitment in treating patients with chest pain. Ottumwa Regional Health Center has been reaccredited as a Chest Pain Center from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) following a rigorous onsite evaluation of our team’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.
This designation not only reflects the commitment to providing quality emergency heart care close to home for the residents of Wapello County but also demonstrates the hospital’s continued efforts to meet and exceed the level of care our community deserves and expects. To maintain this designation, ORHC worked closely with key community partners, such as Iowa Heart and ORMICS (Ottumwa Regional Mobile Intensive Care Service) to enhance coordination among everyone involved in a patient’s care – from first responders to the hospital emergency department team, critical care staff, Cath lab staff to cardiac rehab.
Hospitals that have earned ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation have proven exceptional competency in treating patients with heart attack symptoms. They have streamlined their systems from admission to evaluation to diagnosis and treatment all the way through to appropriate post-discharge care and recommendations and assistance in patient lifestyle changes.
As an accredited Chest Pain Center, ORHC has committed to a higher standard of care for emergency cardiac services, continual quality improvement in heart care, and community education and resources to help keep hearts healthy. Over the past year, the hospital has engaged with the Ottumwa community through a variety of outreach initiatives including:
• Providing Hands-on CPR training at YMCA• Providing Hands on CPR training at 4H• Hosted Heart Healthy event• Providing heart education during Heart Month at Kiwanis & Rotary luncheons• Hosted Heart Health Bingo at Pennsylvania Place• Created Heart Month Pole Banners to be posted on the bridges in Ottumwa
These efforts reflect an ongoing commitment to ensuring that individuals in Wapello County have access to both emergency cardiac care and the knowledge necessary to make informed health decisions.
