3D Mammography
Detect & Treat Breast Cancer Early
Superior 3D Mammography at Ottumwa Regional Health Center provides up to 41% greater detection of invasive breast cancer.
Every year over 200,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer, and every year breast cancer that has spread from the breast to other parts of the body (“late stage” or “metastatic” breast cancer) kills about 40,000 women.
When breast cancer is detected early —before it has spread—it is easier to treat and women have a much better chance of surviving breast cancer. Mammograms are the best way of screening women for breast cancer. Any woman who needs breast screening should consider 3D mammography. Women with dense breast tissue* in particular may benefit because it provides a clearer picture. Using 3D mammography makes it easier for doctors to catch breast cancer early. It also helps us catch more cancers.
And it helps us see the cancer size much better than we could on a regular mammogram. It reduces the chances of doctors seeing a false positive.
Digital Mammography
Ottumwa Regional Health Center offers ACR/MQSA accredited digital mammography to detect cancer earlier. A digital mammogram converts X-Ray energy into a digital image of the breast for the radiologist to view and diagnosis. The digital image makes it easier for the radiologist to manipulate the image and find changes in the breast tissue that can be early signs of cancer.

“The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older have annual screening mammograms in order to detect breast cancer even when no symptoms are present. Screening mammography looks for unsuspected changes in the breast tissue. Diagnostic mammography is utilized when a patient has consulted with her doctor or health care provider, and there is a known change that needs to be investigated.”
