Ottumwa Regional Health Center Employees Prepare for Mission Trip to Haiti

Ottumwa, IA…Ottumwa Regional Health Center’s parent company Regional Care Hospital Partners along with Medical Mobile Disaster Relief in Nashville, TN, will be building a 40- bed hospital and outpatient clinic in the town of Thomazeau outside of Port-au-Prince.  With this, several staff members will be joining a relief team that will be traveling to the region in early summer.  Much of the old equipment that was in the St Joseph Hospital will be going to Haiti for this project.

“This is huge personal undertaking for these employees volunteering to go to Haiti”, states Suzie Wood, Executive Director of Development.  Wood continues, “It takes a special person to go to Haiti with all of the medical issues facing this country that has been so devastated by all the disasters”.

The staff is preparing to travel to Haiti by getting monthly updates on activities they will participate in including building the hospital, performing medical procedures, cooking and serving food, conducting bible study and teaching in the school.

The cost is $1000, for this one week journey,  with the hospital covering all the shots and medical exams before they go, paying for half of the time away from the hospital and paying the other half of the total $2000 cost to go.  The public is more than welcome to donate to assist these employees to go to Haiti.   If you are interested in donating please call Suzie Wood at 641-684-2351.
