Ottumwa Regional Health Center recently celebrated the retirement of Cathy Angle, RN from the Women and Family unit. Cathy started her career as a teacher, but realized in her heart she wanted to be nurse and made a career change by going back to school in her 30’s. After graduation, she worked for Wayne County Hospital before joining St. Joseph Hospital in June of 1985. She then joined the ORHC team when the two hospitals merged in 1987. She has enjoyed her entire career in Labor and Delivery and inpatient pediatrics. “I always wanted to do obstetrics,” said Cathy. “Moms and babies are my favorite part of nursing care. I was also fortunate to be here for the births of all seven of my grandchildren!” One of her favorite work memories is being part of the team for multiple birth events. “We’ve had several sets of triplets born here. Each nurse is assigned a baby as soon as it’s born to care for. It’s exciting and a privilege to be a part of that.” She also loves seeing the kids out in the community as they grow up.
Cathy plans to continue to work occasionally, but is excited to spend more time on her favorite hobbies, gardening and show horses. Congratulations, Cathy!
