A Girl Scout since first grade, Thursby (daughter of Julie and Charles Barwick) has worked on a number of community projects from cleaning up the trails to making baby hats for newborns.
She recently presented comfort bags to the McCreery Cancer Center staff to be used for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
The contents of handmade pillows, puzzle books, sleep masks, mints, protein snacks and more were carefully thought out by Thursby based on personal experience with family members and suggestions from friends who were cancer survivors. Her project was funded through a $400 United Way Youth Grant as well as donations from friends and family.
Thursby is in the 10th grade and is home schooled. She has a lot of ideas on what she’d like to pursue after graduation and all of them center around helping people and making their lives better.
Thank you, Thursby!
